This post is one in a series about my personal running; training and racing. For other posts like this, click here.
Like last year, my running season ended in October with the Hallow’s Eve Trail race. I took two full weeks of rest, and am now base-building as I start to ramp up for my 2013 goals (more on those to come in the next post).
In 2012 I continued to improve and become a better runner. I had a lot of fun doing most of the races and I wanted, and was lucky to avoid any serious injuries. Race results for all my events are available on the post of my 2012 Race schedule.
My highlights were:
- Setting a marathon PB of 3:16 (an improvement of ~13 minutes)
- Setting half-marathon PB of 1:30 (an improvement of ~7 minutes)
- Completing my first ultramarathon (the Knee Knacker 30m)
- Completing a total of 12 races and setting a PB on each course I had run previously
- Breaking 1 hour on the Coho 14km
- Running a total of over 2,000km in 190+ hours of training (as of writing this post I’m about 80km short of 2,000km but should be able to break the mark by next week)
.
So all-in-all it was another good year. I ramped up my mileage (about 2,000km vs. 1,500 last year) and added more intensity to my training. The gains aren’t coming as quickly/ easily, but that’s to be expected after 3 years of running. Next year I’m really going to focus on having a better diet (recently reading Jurek’s Eat & Run is helping me realize how crappy my diet really is), and adding some strength training and stretching into the regiment (two things I’ve never really done to this point).
Really looking forward to 2013, and I’m going to put together a race plan and some goals shortly!
