The Best Vancouver Hiking Trails
The Bowen Lookout is a short but sweet snowshoe route in Cypress Provincial Park.
The route carries along the Yew Lake Trail before passing through a section of scenic old-growth forest and then climbing uphill about 100 m of elevation. The trail ends with a fantastic viewpoint overlooking Howe Sound and Bowen Island.
Black Mountain is a popular snowshoe trail in Cypress Provincial Park in West Vancouver. While popular, this trail is usually less busy than the nearby Hollyburn Mountain and Bowen Lookout snowshoe routes.
Alexander Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Callaghan Country just a few kilometers south of Whistler. There is a viewing platform overlooking Alexander Falls along the road to the Whistler Olympic Park. In the summer, the viewing platform is a nice detour spot along a drive to or from Whistler.
Just because it’s cold and rainy in the city doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and enjoy nature. There are many great hikes available below the snowline so you can stay active during the winter. But snowshoeing allows you to get up into the mountains and enjoying a different type of adventure all-together.
The winter route to First Pump Peak on Mount Seymour is a popular snowshoe trail on the North Shore. The snowshoe route is marked by B.C. Parks and is a nice alternative to the snowshoe trail to Dog Mountain for those looking for a more challenging hike.
Hollyburn Mountain (aka Hollyburn Peak) in Cypress Provincial Park is one of the most popular winter trails around Vancouver. On a sunny weekend day, hundreds of people flock to the trail to get some fresh winter air and soak up the spectacular view of the city and surrounding mountains.
