Last Sunday I was fortunate to get to the start line of the BMO Vancouver Marathon feeling healthy and ready to try and get a BQ (Boston Qualifier), by running a time of sub-3:05. My previous best marathon time was 3:16 at the 2012 Vancouver Marathon. My Dad was in town so I stayed at his hotel downtown with my son, and managed about 4 hours of interrupted, restless sleep. Having a 5 year old constantly kicking you in the face doesn’t help you sleep when you’re already feeling restless.
#RunVan Update 10 – Race Day!
Well, the big day is fast approaching with less only 2 sleeps to go. I’ve been enjoying the time provided with shorter runs and having a few extra days off running.
On Wednesday I had my final ‘speedwork’ session at the track, and will just fit in 1 (maybe 2) easy runs before Sunday.
Overall, I’m really happy with my training over the past 5 months and think I’ll have a chance at reaching my goal on race day, which is all I can ask. I didn’t suffer any major set-backs, and the only ‘injury’ I’ve had is a nagging IT band issue which has been tolerable, and has almost disappeared completely with the last 2 weeks of tapering.
