If you’re looking for some hiking trails in the Victoria, BC, area, Victoria Trails has plenty of great information. The website will be familiar to anyone who has used Vancouver Trails as they are sister-websites and have a similar layout. Each trail contains detailed information, including the distance, estimated time, elevation change, photos, videos, descriptions and more.
Victoria’s mild weather and smaller mountains means hiking can be done as a year-round activity and many trails are much easier than the steep, gruelling hikes in the Vancouver or Sea To Sky region. Hills are often “rolling” and the vegetation more coastal as Arbutus Trees, with their peeling bark, are commonly found along many hiking trails.
There are some interesting Provincial Parks worth exploring in Victoria including Gowlland-Tod Provincial Park, Goldstream Provincial Park, and Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. All of the Provincial Parks have day-use areas and Goldstream and the Sooke Potholes are popular camping areas in the summer months.
Some hiking trails worth checking out:
Goldstream Railway Trestle – A short day hike that takes you to a wooden railway trestle bridge, high above a canyon crossing.
Coast Trail in East Sooke Park – The 10km Trail is rugged but scenic with incredible coastal views. Most hikers do portions of the trail and loop back to one of the parking lots via the interior forest trails.
Mount Finlayson – With an elevation gain of 410 meters in 2km, this is one of Victoria’s steepest hikes with a rewarding view.
